Ups and downs

Portimonense enjoyed mixed fortunes on the pitch last week. 21-year-old Brazilian striker Felipe Miranda was the hero of the 1-0 League Cup victory over top tier Feirense at their own municipal stadium, during which the visitors were never seen in with a chance.

The win puts the Algarveans into the third phase of the competition which features top clubs Porto, Benfica, Sporting and Braga joining for the four round-robin group draw.

Unfortunately that form did not carry over for Sunday afternoon’s league clash with fellow strugglers Arouca.

The poor referee was matched by an equally disappointing goalless draw during which a perfectly legitimate strike from Portimao’s Ricardo Nunes was disallowed.

The point gained sees Portimonense remaining in last place ahead of tomorrow’s (Saturday) visit from league leaders Atletico.
