UPDATE: McCanns reported to be “furious” as court case postponed

The delays we reported earlier this morning (https://www.portugalresident.com/new-revelations-as-mccanns-go-all-out-for-%E2%82%AC1-million-in-damages) were due to the fact that former police chief Gonçalo Amaral delivered a letter to the court at 9am this morning announcing that he had sacked his lawyer Vítor Santos Oliveira. This has meant that the case is delayed by 10 days, allowing Amaral time to find replacement legal representation.
Calling the moves “blatant and cynical” attempts to wear them down, the McCann couple spoke to reporters on the steps of the Lisbon court, affirming “We will be back”.
Saying that every time Dr Amaral postpones the case, he adds to their pain and distress, Kate McCann told the assembled barrage of cameramen and microphones: “Mr Amaral is not the victim in this.”
The hearing has now been scheduled to be heard from July 8 to 10.
Reporting on the collapse of the morning’s proceedings, Sky’s Robert Nesbitt said the McCanns “are absolutely furious”.
According to a tweet from the Sun Newspaper, lawyer Santos Oliveira “slunk out of the court looking sheepish. Says he doesn’t know why he was fired”.
