A 43-year-old man will await trial in prison on suspicion of the murder of a 68-year-old woman inside a hairdresser in Faro in November, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.
The man had been arrested in Loulé on Saturday (January 25) where PJ criminal police said “he moved to after committing the crime and abandoning his home in Faro”.
The case dates back to November 28 when the woman’s body was found inside the hairdresser she owned for over 20 years in Faro.
It is believed that the man had been in a relationship with the victim’s great niece, which would explain how he knew that the victim lived and worked alone.
Authorities suspect that the man entered the hairdresser and attacked the victim violently until she died before searching her handbag for her house keys.
The man is believed to have stolen several valuables and money from both the hairdresser and the woman’s home.
Jornal de Notícias reports that the suspect is unemployed and struggles with drug addiction, having already committed several crimes and served jail time in the past.
