Unwanted jobs on the increase

Recession || Unemployment may have been dropping since last year, but the truth is that the number of unwanted jobs is also on the increase – mostly due to abysmal conditions offered.
This is the main point of an article published by Dinheiro Vivo online newspaper and based on data from the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).
The article stresses there were 22,290 unfilled jobs in June this year. That’s 38.1% more than in the same month last year.
According to the newspaper, they are mainly “badly paid, short-term and part-time jobs” directed at a very specific spectrum not including “inexperienced youngsters or qualified individuals”.
Although acknowledging that there are more offers and fewer people who need them, DV stresses that the deteriorating quality of jobs is also a factor to take into account, especially since the economic crisis.
Examples include a part-time job offer for a nurse on the IEFP’s website which offers €550 a month for a six-month contract. The same €550 salary is offered to an advertising and marketing graduate for a full-time job on a 12-month contract.
