THE PORTUGUESE Ministry of Education is prepared to make concessions over its hugely unpopular teacher evaluation programme, which brought 100,000 protestors to Lisbon’s streets on Saturday.

The Minister for Education, Maria de Lourdes Rodrigues, said on national television last week that “evaluations on teacher performance would not be delayed, neither suspended” but that the evaluation model would “be revised.” The minister said that at most there would be “some adjustments” before the end of 2009.
