Che Lagoense Olympic badminton hopefuls Pedro Martins and Telma Santos were unfortunate not to progress beyond the sport’s Portuguese Open quarter-final stages. The two top Algarve club stars narrowly lost out to eventual tournament winners Dieter Domke from Germany and Spain’s Beatriz Corrales respectively. In the men’s doubles competition, Tomas Nero and Rafael Lopes did well to defeat England’s Ryan McCartthy and Tom Wolfenden before losing their semi-final to a further English pair comprising Marcus Ellis and Paul Rietvelde.
