With the summer now officially in place and weather heating up rapidly, IPMA – the country’s sea and atmosphere institute – has issued a “very high” fire alert for 13 boroughs, including Vila do Bispo, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira and Alcoutim in the Algarve, Barrancos in the Alentejo (Beja), Mação, Sardoal (Santarém) and Vila de Rei and Oleiros in Castelo Branco.
Districts meantime on “high alert” are Faro, Setúbal, Évora, Beja, Santarém, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Leiria, Bragança, Coimbra and Guarda.
