University pals launch successful eco-clothing business

Two Portuguese university students from Santarém have launched an eco-clothing business that started exporting to France, Italy and Spain months after its inception.

Orus clothing markets t-shirts, sweatshirts and sunglasses produced in factories that respect the environment.

“The source of energy used in production is either wind or sun,” explains Francisco Duarte, 21.

A member of the “Fair Wear Foundation”, the new company uses high-quality cotton grown without the use of pesticides.

Another aspect of foundation ethos is that members only uses factories committed to improving the working conditions of their staff.

“Response so far has been very positive,” Duarte and business partner, long-term friend Pedro Gonçalves, affirm.

This winter the duo hope to get their clothing range into ‘multibrand stores’ but for now it is only available online.
