Unique strike: nurses in private hospitals to strike on March 16

In a unique strike for Portugal – strikes here tend to be limited to the public sector – nurses will be ‘walking out’ of private hospitals on March 16. The reason for their protest is the ‘increasing cost of living’ which, they claim, private health groups are not reflecting in pay increases. Worst offenders, say nurses who have talked with SIC television news, are the health groups Luz, Lusiádas and CUF. The strike is scheduled to take place the day before the national strike called by Frente Comum on March 17.
