Unemployment in the Algarve has doubled in the last year. However, the government has announced that the region will be receiving funding of 30 million euros to help combat unemployment in the 2010 employment initiative.
The seasonal nature of employment in the Algarve has been pinpointed as one reason behind the 20,000 currently unemployed in the region, said Helena André, the Minister for Labour.
The initiative hopes to create 14,000 new jobs for those in the region through the support and the creation of new social facilities.
