Unemployment down, but still above EU average

Portugal’s unemployment rate dropped from 14.6% to 14.3% in May – the lowest rate registered since December 2011 – but Eurostat data shows that Portugal is still above the European Union’s unemployment average (10.3%).
Around 736,000 people are officially without a job in Portugal, which is also the fourth country in the European Union with the highest unemployment rate behind Spain (25.1%), Croatia (16.3%) and Cyprus (15.3%).
It is the 13th month in a row that unemployment has decreased in the country, not unusual in the summer months.
