A total of 225 young sailors representing 37 countries are currently competing in the European Optimist-class Championships which will reach their climax off Tavira on Sunday. Amongst the candidates hoping to secure a berth at the World Championships later this year are current rankings leader Konstantinos Oikonomidis from Greece or Ireland’s Peter McCain while Spain’s Maria Caba and Italy’s Francesca Bergamo hold strong claims in the
girls’ section.
