Two young people died in separate drowning incidents in the north this week. The first was a 15-year-old on a beach unprotected by lifeguards in Vila do Conde. The youngster was rescued within 10 minutes of getting into difficulties but could not be resuscitated. In Vila Nova de Gaia, a 20-year-old died after going swimming with a friend at a beach on the Douro river.
