Two years later… Silves Medieval Fair is back!

Wednesday marks the start of Silves Medieval Fair, the hugely popular event which every summer attracts thousands of people to the town.

This year’s edition will be particularly special as it will mark the return of the event after not being held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, although Silves Medieval (a “more restrained” version of the event) was held last summer.

The fair is one of the Algarve’s biggest summer events and has once again seen the town decorated to look (almost) like it did in the Middle Ages.

Items from all corners of the world are sold at the fair, as over 100 exhibitors have travelled to the Algarve especially for the occasion.

Meanwhile, visitors can enjoy the usual Medieval tournaments and shows, live music performances, street entertainment, Medieval taverns serving food and drinks, a play area for children (Xilb dos Pequenos) and a Berbers camp with blacksmiths, carpenters, potters and vendors selling all sorts of exotic products.

For those looking to immerse themselves completely, there will be two areas where visitors can dress up for the event.

A bracelet providing access to every day of the fair costs €5 and can be purchased at several local establishments, including Silves’ library, castle, museum, and municipal pools. Meanwhile, a one-day ticket will cost €2 per person. The bracelet and tickets can also be purchased at the entrances to the event or online at www.feiramedievalsilves.bol.pt/
