Around two million flu shots are being distributed to health centres and chemists in Portugal.
For the over 65s, the vaccine is free, while other citizens can purchase it at the chemist upon presentation of a doctor’s prescription.
According to the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), flu vaccines are mainly aimed at people over the age of 65, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, health professionals and staff at old peoples’ homes.
