Two men arrested after São Brás supermarket heist

Two men believed to be behind a series of robberies in the Algarve have been arrested after crashing their car during a high-speed chase outside São Brás de Alportel.

The duo, aged 30 and 40, were caught Tuesday afternoon (October 11) after allegedly holding up a supermarket in São Brás.

Police searched the men’s car and found a knife, three doses of cocaine and €165 in cash, as well as the clothes they used during the alleged crimes.

In a statement, GNR police said the duo is believed to be behind several robberies in Albufeira, Almancil, São Brás, Olhão and Tavira.

They added that their ‘modus operandi’ was to steal money from cash registers by threatening staff in charge.

The men are due to be heard at Faro court.
