Two in every three Portuguese are overweight

Another clear indication for why SARS-CoV-2 carried off so many victims in ‘affluent countries’ is the fact that two in every three citizens in Portugal are either overweight, or obese. The damning conclusion comes from a new report by DGS health authorities, and was featured by tabloid Correio da Manhã today, using a photograph by way of illustration of four very obviously overweight people seated at tables on a restaurant terrace. Frustratingly, the article did not appear to have any answers. The bottom line was that “60% of deaths in this country are associated to risk factors resulting from poor eating habits”.
