Two ferries carrying 700 passengers ‘collide’ in Tejo river

Two boats carrying 700 passengers collided early this morning in the Tejo river. No-one was hurt; one of the boats suffered some damage but it has not impaired navigability, say reports. The Transtejo/Soflusa company which owns both boats, will now be holding ‘an internal inquiry’ to try and ‘ascertain the circumstances of this occurrence’. The accident took place at 7.25 this morning. One of the boats was on the Barreiro – Terreiro do Paço route, the other on the Seixal to Cais de Sodré run. According to an eye witness, the boat that left Barreiro “rammed the boat from Seixal with some intensity” as it attempted to change direction.
