Two dead, rail services suspended after train hits motorbike

Two young people in their 20s on a motorbike died late yesterday afternoon after being hit by a train on a crossing between the Santarém and Setil stations. Services on the line between Lisbon and Porto were subsequently stopped in both directions until into the evening, a source from the Lezíria do Tejo sub-regional command told Lusa. An investigation is now underway to establish how this tragedy came to happen. Correio da Manhã suggests the bike was attempting to cross the line with the barriers already down, and lights flashing (indicating that a train was on the way)
