Two people in their 20s died early this morning when the car they were travelling in careered off a hillside in Porto Moniz, Madeira, into a ravine. A third young person in the car was finally rescued late morning and airlifted to hospital. Reports describe the incident being called in by a father of one of the victims, who tracked the car via a GPS signal. It is not known at this point whether the father is a relative of one of the fatalities, or of the survivor. The car is understood to have fallen from a height of around 180 metres. UPDATE: The father is the father of the survivor, aged 19, who is now being treated in Funchal Hospital where his condition on entry was described as ‘critical’.
