Portugal lost their second successive Rugby World Cup qualifying match in Lisbon on Saturday.
The 16-10 defeat to Georgia leaves the Lobos trailing previous victors Russia by five points in third place, a position they will have to defend during the outstanding ties against Spain and Germany, starting on Saturday, in order to reach the play-offs.
Meanwhile the latest round of Six Nations matches firmly established France as favourites to take the championship following a resounding 33-10 triumph over Ireland.
The closing Paris encounter with equally unbeaten England, only narrow winners in Italy, should decide the title if not the Grand Slam.
