A 42-year-old man was taken to Faro Hospital
A truck crashed and plunged into the Quarteira stream near the bridge which links the western side of Vilamoura Marina to Praia da Falésia this Thursday.
Two people were inside the vehicle: a 42-year-old Brazilian man who sustained minor injuries and was taken to Faro Hospital; and a second victim who refused medical assistance, a civil protection source told Lusa news agency.
Authorities were alerted at 12.16pm and manoeuvres are being conducted to remove the vehicle from the location.
When asked if the bridge in question was closed due to the removal operations, the source clarified that it is “an access point to the beach and not a main road.” Consequently, any inconvenience caused by the necessary manoeuvres to remove the vehicle from the site may only affect vehicles in the beachside parking lot.
“It doesn’t even have an exit, it’s an access point to the beach from the western side of the marina,” the source explained.
A total of 12 vehicles with 25 personnel were called to the scene, including Loulé firefighters, GNR police and INEM emergency services.
