During an outreach project organised by the Portimonense Sporting Club on April 22, four truck loads of food and milk were collected at the Portimão Municipal Stadium for the hungry people of the city.
In aid of the Refeitório Social de Portimão (Social Canteen of Portimão), the ‘À bola para ajudar’ charitable initiative asked people to help by donating at least one food item and a carton of milk in exchange for a ticket to the Portimonense versus Freamunde football match, which was later attended by over 4,000 people.
All goods were delivered to the Social Canteen that provides food for approximately 100 people on a daily basis and the initiative was said by the sporting club to have “far exceeded all expectations”.

Meanwhile, the Soup Kitchen of Portimão is still desperately in need of a new sheltered location to supply hot meals for nearly 100 people (see Algave Resident, April 20 edition).
Until a new location is found, soup and sandwiches will continue to be supplied by the International Christian Fellowship Church, three times a week.
