Troubled waters

Ambitious third division side Farense have parted company with coach Bruno Ribeiro and his two assistants, who have been forbidden to enter the club grounds by President António Barão.

The split came about after the gap to top-placed Mafra had grown to seven points – only one club advances to the promotion play-offs at the end of the season- endangering Faro’s stated objective of returning to the second national tier.

Interim coach Antero Afonso immediately took a step in the right direction when Farense returned from Lisbon the 1-0 winners over Futebol Benfica, while fellow Algarvians also currently in search of a new manager, Louletano, provided a great ‘assist’ in beating Mafra 2-0.
