THE PORTUGUESE Higher National Defence Council (CSDN) will this week decide on the size of Portugal’s peace-keeping force due for deployment to Lebanon. Recently, a spokesperson from the Ministry of State for Foreign Affairs made it clear in Brussels that the Portuguese government would accept its political responsibility alongside its European partners. Both the President of Portugal, Cavaco Silva, and Prime Minister, José Sócrates, are expected to discuss the issue in Lisbon next week.
