Multinational Modeléz, the owner of Portugal’s Triunfo and Proalimentar brand of biscuits, has just announced that it will be closing its factory in Mem Martins, Sintra, during 2016 and transferring production to the Czech Republic. No reasons have been given for the decision which has prompted an angry response from the workers’ union, Sintab. Sintab explains that in all around 100 people face losing their jobs.
