Triple charity golf event

A leading Algarve hotel group is organising three charity golf tournaments this month to raise money and awareness for international charity Unicef.

The first of the StarwoodHotels and Resorts in Portugal events is due to take place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Sheraton Algarve Pine Cliffs Golf and Country Club in Albufeira.

This will be followed by a tournament on Sunday at the Le Meridien Penina Golf and Resort on the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Golf Course near Portimão.

The final tournament is at The Westin Campo Real Golf Resort and Spa, north of Lisbon, on August 23. This will be followed by the official closing ceremony and presentation of a cheque with the total funds raised at the three events to Unicef.

In addition to participating and contributing towards a charitable cause, participants at the Starwood Portugal Charity Golf Tour can also win prizes for first to third place in both men’s and women’s categories as well as longest drive and nearest the pin. Prizes include free stays at selected Starwood hotels and designer golf clothing.

The entry fee for each tournament is 50 euros per person, including green fee and lunch.

The partnership between Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Unicef also includes the Check out for Children programme.

This consists of guests being invited to donate an additional one euro when checking out of their hotel. This has raised more than 14 million euros, allowing an immunity programme for more than one million children across the world.
