Tree of love at  Lagoa winery

A regional art movement is appealing to residents of the Algarve to give underprivileged children a Christmas gift “filled with love” this month.

Visitors to the Arte Algarve international art fair in Loulé in December 2009 were asked to take along presents for orphaned children and place them under the Tree of Love, a large Christmas tree especially decorated by local artists.

“Hundreds of residents responded to the appeal and the children’s happy faces while carrying away mountains of parcels were unforgettable,” said Rolf Osang from Arte Algarve.

Now, the Tree of Love is coming to Lagoa as Galeria Arte Algarve at the Adega in Lagoa will be the venue for a repetition of the successful Christmas appeal.

Visitors to the Lagoa art gallery are again being asked to take along Christmas presents that should be clearly marked with genre and age references.

The appeal starts tomorrow (Saturday) with the inauguration of a new exhibition by Brigitte von Humboldt at 3pm.

On December 22, children from several children’s homes across the region will be invited to the gallery to receive their presents.

“We hope to make their Christmas a brighter one. These children deserve the best we can give them,” said Rolf Osang.

“What makes this appeal so special is the fact that you are not asked to give money but love.”

The Resident Group is pleased to support the Tree of Love appeal.
