The American rapper had not performed for two years
The Rolling Loud festival (July 5-7) in Praia da Rocha, Portimão, has already been described as “unforgettable” by those who attended the first day.
Hip-hop fans who came from all over the world to watch the performance of over 60 Hip-Hop artists and the headliners Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Meek Mill couldn’t be happier to see their musical idols perform in a beach setting enjoying the warm climate.
The first day featured Portuguese artists Profjam and the Wet Bed Gang performing on the Loud Punx Stage and the festival’s headliner, Travis Scott, on the main stage to close the night. After two years of not performing in public, the American rapper made the crowd cheer, jump and sing along to his songs.
Even though it was only the beginning of the “largest hip-hop festival in the world”, as the organisation describes it, Travis Scott’s concert made the three-day event already memorable for fans who were more than eager to see him perform.
His concert happens a week after he found out he will not face criminal charges for the crushing deaths of 10 people at his Astroworld festival performance in 2021, held in Houston, a decision made by a Texas state grand jury.
Despite the case has come to what is believed to be the end, both the artist and the Astroworld festival organisation are also the target of several lawsuits filed by relatives of the victims.
Yesterday (July 5) was also marked by performances from Aitch, Bktherula, Central Cee, Chow Lee, Destroy Lonely, Eem Triplin, Homixide Gang, Jeleel!, Joey Bada$$, Kaaris, Ken Carson, Latto, Lil Uzi Vert, Luh Tyler, Meechy Darko, Profjam, Rafaell Dior, Rondodasosa, Shaybo, Soulja Boy and T-Rex.
Today, Playboi Carti is the last one to take to the stage, at 11.45pm, and surprise those on the Algarve beach ready to welcome the North American rapper and songwriter with open arms.
Other artists today (July 6) include 2Rare, Cochise, Dess Dior, Glorilla, Gucci Mane, Hoosh, J.I.D, Kodak Black, K-Trap, Lil Skies, Lola Brooke, Mariah the Scientist, Mizzy Miles, Night Lovell, Nines, NLE Choppa, Robb Bank$, Sainté, Sid Shyne and Space JaM The Pilot.
On Friday, Meek Mill is the closing headliner, joined by Danny Towers, D-Block Europe, Digga D, Dinos, Duke Deuce, Eddy Baker, Fat Nick, Kaycyy, K.Charles, Kxllswxtch, La Zowi, Leïti, Lil Durk, Russ Millions, Sippinpurpp, Ski Mask The Slump God, Tay Money, Tion Wayne, Unknown T, Xavier Wulf and YG.
The first edition of Rolling Loud in Portugal, which took place in 2019, gathered around 35,000 spectators, with headliners featuring names such as ‘rapper’ and producer J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Future.
This festival shares the organisation and venue with Afro Nation, described as the “world’s biggest Afrobeats festival”, which took place from June 28 to 30 and attracted over 40,000 revellers from 140 countries to Portimão.
