New entry requirements to the US mean that travellers now need to provide details of their visit via the Electronic Travel System (ESTA) 72 hours prior to travel.
All visitors to the US who are part of the Visa Waiver Programme (VMP), which include British, German, Dutch and Portuguese travellers, must register on the official website before they go to the US even if they booked their trip before the enforcement of the new rule.
The new requirements came into force on January 12 and anyone who fails to fill in the online form is likely to be detained and sent home on arrival in the US.
