AROUND 10,000 traffic lights in Lisbon are to be fitted with new LED bulbs and solar panels in a bid to reduce running costs and improve security.
The bulbs currently being used only last between 1,000 and 2,000 hours whereas the new LED bulbs will last for 100,000 hours.
The eco-friendly initiative, which is expected to cost the Câmara 500,000 euros, is expensive, but it is believed the money will be recouped through long term savings.
