Tourists flock to  traditional festivals

Hundreds of revellers took part in traditional Algarve festivals last weekend, enjoying the sights and sounds reminiscent of the region of yesteryear.

The folklore festival in Alte, near Loulé, on May 1 was an opportunity to watch local people entertain the crowds with song and dance as part of the final day celebrations of Alte’s cultural week which started on April 24.

Meanwhile, in Estoi, Faro, visitors were able to be part of the Festa da Pinha (Pine Festival) on May 2 where tractors and floats were decorated and locals donned traditional dress and celebrated until dawn in this annual festival.
