Death || A French tourist was killed outright and three Koreans badly injured when they tried to cross the busy Marginal road linking Cascais with Lisbon early on Thursday morning.
According to Correio da Manhã newspaper, a driver on his way into the capital failed to see the little group as he was blinded by the sunshine.
He is reported to have ploughed straight into them – only coming to a halt 100 metres further down the road.
CM added that the place where the tourists chose to cross has four lanes of traffic and a pedestrian overpass just 50 metres away.
The body of the Frenchman, aged 78, was transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine, while the three Koreans – all women between the ages of 40 and 50 – are now being treated in various hospitals in Lisbon. They are all thought to be out of danger.
The holidaymakers had been trying to get to the sands for an early morning stroll, reports CM.
