Tourism on the rise

Most Europeans are set to go ahead with their holiday travel plans in 2010, according to a new Eurobarometer survey.

Only 20 per cent of the more than 30,000 people questioned in the European Commission survey said they would not travel in 2010, compared with 33 per cent in 2009.

Some 57 per cent said they preferred to spend their holidays in traditional tourist destinations, with 28 per cent opting for emerging destinations and 15 per cent not yet decided.

Tourism is one of the major service industries in Europe, representing five percent of the European Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and six per cent of the employment rate in Europe.
