Tourism down

Hotel room occupancy levels were down 4.3 per cent across the Algarve in June, compared to the same month in 2008, according to statistics released by the association for hotels and tourist developments of the Algarve (AHETA).

The largest fall in occupancy levels was registered in Vilamoura, Quarteira and Quinta do Lago, which were 13.9 per cent lower, and Faro/Olhão, which were 10.7 per cent lower.

Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António recorded an increase in hotel occupancy levels, with 82 per cent of available spaces filled.

British nationals represented 39.6 per cent of visitors, followed by Portuguese nationals and Germans.
