A total eclipse of the sun will be partially visible in Portugal on the Spring equinox (March 20) – one of the two days in the calendar when the length of the day and night in the northern hemisphere is almost equal.
According to Lisbon’s astronomical observatory, the eclipse will be able to be seen throughout the country but best results are expected from the Azorean islands of Corvo and Flores where the effect will last around two hours, between the hours of 8am to 10am (Portugal continental time).
Elsewhere, the eclipse will be visible in the extreme north of the Atlantic Ocean, in the Faroe Islands, Svalbard and the Arctic over a swathe of 410-488 kms.
