The Roman Bridge of Tôr, in the Loulé council, has been given the status of ‘property of municipal interest’.
According to the town hall, it is vitally important to preserve public projects with a historical value, such as the Tôr Bridge which dates back to Roman times.
The bridge, crossing the Algibre stream, features five arches, one of them rebuilt in the medieval period.
The picturesque bridge is seen as a link between the Algarve ‘serra’ and the coastal populations and has for decades been a subject of study by historians and archaeologists.
