Parkalgar Honda star Eugene Laverty made a sensational start to the World Supersport Championship season on Phillip Island in Australia.
The Northern Irishman underlined his 2010 title credentials with a storming victory from fourth place on the grid over Spanish pole starter Joan Lascorz, with Ten Kate contender Kenan Sofuoglu only in third.
Last minute adjustments to Laverty’s powerful Honda CBR600 RR machine appeared to make a major difference to the mixed results obtained during the previous two days’ qualifying, enabling the Algarveans to make a triumphant return ahead of the competition’s second round at the Portimao Motor Park on the last weekend of this month (March 26, 27 and 28).
Parkalgar No2 Miguel Praia achieved a highly credible ninth place finish from 11th on the grid and will be hoping to break into the top six this year.
