Tennis players from across Portugal took part in the 14th annual Sovereign tournament for veterans at the Carvoeiro Clube de Ténis.
More than 60 Portuguese and foreign players took to the courts during the official federation tournament in the categories of over 35s, over 45s, over 50s and over 55s with ladies, men’s, singles and doubles.
Portuguese over 35s number one Nuno Delfino was one of the entrants of the competition and finished in first place in his classification, while local player Roberto Estorinho from the Carvoeiro Clube de Ténis was runner-up in the same category.
Other winners included Louisa Gouveia in the ladies singles over 35s, Jorge Varela in the men’s singles over 45s and Ferreira da Costa in the men’s singles over 55s.
Prizes of pottery from Porches Pottery were donated by Lagoa-based accountants and tax advisers Sovereign, while bottled water for players was provided by António Manuel Martins of Comércio de Bebidas.
