Ricardo Santos continued his brilliant start to this year’s PGA European Tour with a shared ninth place at last weekend’s Africa Open.
The Portuguese No1 carded rounds of 71, 66 and 70 before two bogeys at the end of the final day’s play resulting in a further 71 prevented an even higher finish. Santo’s ultra consistent play over the past two months also means that he has become the first Portuguese golfer ever to occupy a top ten place in the current Race to Dubai. Meanwhile, the older Santos sibling, Hugo, ended the Portuguese PGA Winter Tour order of merit in second place following a series of tournaments held on the Pestana Algarve Golf Resort courses. The overall winner was Britain’s Robbie Busher whose achievement earned him a ‘wild card’ for next May’s Madeira Open.
Hugo Santos, along with fellow Algarveans Tiago Cruz and Antonio Rosado, may now accept an invitation to compete on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour, a British circuit consisting of 20 tournaments offering an average of €10,000 each.
