England Rugby World Cup hero, Jason Leonard, England Football Captain, David Beckham and Portuguese football star, Luís Figo, are among the sports personalities who have donated autographed items to be auctioned or raffled at the Wolf Valley Charity Day in Vale do Lobo on Sunday June 20.
The auction, which takes place during the gala dinner, is just part of a day-long fundraising event that includes golf tournaments and fun activities for all the family. The popular annual event is being organised once again by the Wolf Valley Charity, which was founded in 1999 by a group of international Vale do Lobo residents.
The event is definitely not to be missed by golf lovers across the Algarve. Entries are already being taken for the amateur tournaments being held on Vale do Lobo’s Royal and Ocean golf courses. The highly competitive putting competition will take place again this year and golfers can also enjoy a trick golf demonstration by resident teaching professional, Steve Walker. In addition, autographed caps from Vale do Lobo’s tour professionals, Brian Davis, Jarmo Sandelin and António Sobrinho, will be on sale, with all proceeds going to the charity.
Other activities include a tombola, offering the chance to win rounds of golf, accommodation and many quality prizes, a raffle including flight tickets and autographed sporting memorabilia, and games for children. Music will be provided courtesy of Kiss FM, with a live broadcast coming directly from the resort on the day – visitors have the chance to request their favourite songs and dedications live on air.
Last year, the event raised a staggering 68,000 euros for local causes and the monies raised this year will be used to give much needed support to ASCA (Almancil Community Centre), the Escola Primária São João da Venda and ASMAL, home for the mentally handicapped, all of which are located in Almancil.
The golf tournaments begin at 7.30am, with the rest of the activities beginning at 10.30am. Packages are available including golf and gala dinner, as well as dinner only. Daytime entry to the event is free for those not entering the golf tournaments – don’t forget to bring the family!
