Top Speed

Algarve bike star Ruben Faria made the best possible start to the latest edition of the Dakar Rally before having the brakes applied by officialdom.

The KTM star took the opening stage in Argentina by more than 30 seconds from Cyril Despres and Marc Coma, only to have a one-minute penalty applied for exceeding the speed limit.

Following a more measured fifth place on the second day Faria was lying in third overall as the Algarve Resident went to press, while on four wheels Carlos Sainz (Volkswagen) was enjoying a comfortable lead over Stephan Peterhansel(BMW).
