After being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the ‘Rallye Casinos do Algarve’ is due to make its much-anticipated return on December 4 and 5 with the first edition of ‘Taça dos Campeões de Ralis Regionais – Claudino Romeiro’.
Organised by the Portuguese Automobile and Karting Federation (FPAK) and the Algarve Automobile Club (CAAL), the event will bring together the top-ranked drivers from Portugal’s regional championships (North, Centre, South, Azores and Madeira). As organisers point out, participants will have an opportunity to “end the season as the champion of the champions of Portugal’s regional championships, as well as in their respective categories”.
The event will also be the final race of the GT’s, Clássicos and Campeonato Sul de Ralis categories.
The first day of racing will begin with a qualifying stage in Porches, open to all contestants, while in the afternoon the contest will move on to Portimão, followed by a “super-special” nighttime event in the centre of Lagos.
On the second day, racers will be competing in the mountains of Monchique before a final “super-special” contest near Portimão’s Poeta António Aleixo secondary school. An escorted parade featuring the participating racers will begin at the school and end at Hotel Algarve Casino in Praia da Rocha, bringing the event to a close.
“Another highlight will be the fact that Ricardo Teodósio and José Teixeira, recently crowned two-time national rally champions, will open the race, giving their fans in the Algarve an opportunity to celebrate, on the road and on the podium, the Algarvian duo’s most recent success,” organisers add.
The ‘Taça’ has been named after the late Claudino Romeiro, an important figure linked to national car racing and FPAK. He died in October last year.
You can follow the event on the Clube Automóvel do Algarve’s social media pages as well as on the online radio which will be created especially for the event.
