Portimonense drew their fourth consecutive home game, with Aves, before finally securing a first victory in front of their own fans under new coach Litos against erstwhile leaders Feirense. That 1-0 success left the Algarveans in third place, one and two points respectively behind Santa Clara and Beira Mar going into Saturday’s televised away match at Varzim, which saw the visitors hold out for a goalless draw under heavy pressure from the home side.
Coach Litos’ men now head into the winter break with promotion hopes very much alive and will return to action against Oliverense on January 10.
They will not however, continue to have a part to play in the League Cup after an appeals board upheld Academica’s complaint against the recent player age-related decision, reinstating the ‘Students’ in place of Portimão.
