Renowned Australian guitarist Craig Ogden will be giving two recitals next month at Os Agostos country estate, above Santa Bárbara de Nexe. The first recital will be on Tuesday, November 8 and will feature compositions by Giuliani, George Harrison, Lennon and McCartney, Tippett, Bach, Albeniz and Ryan. The second recital will be on Thursday, November 10 and Craig will play pieces by Dowland, Berkeley, Reinhardt, Walton, Bach, Lauro Morel and Albeniz.
Craig Ogden started studying the guitar when he was seven and percussion from the age of 13. In 2004, he became the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Craig, one of the world’s most prominent instrumentalists, has travelled extensively. He has played with the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hallé, City of London Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata, Denmark’s Aalborg Symphony and many others.
Craig is probably today’s most prolific guitar recording artist. He has recorded with many labels including Classic FM, Chandos, Virgin/EMI, Nimbus, Hyperion and Sony. Two of Craig’s early Classic FM albums, the ‘Guitarist’ and ‘Summertime’, both shot straight to number one in the UK classic charts in 2010 and 2011 respectively. These were followed by the release of ‘Christmas Time’ in November 2013. His latest Classic FM albums, ‘Summer Guitar’ and ‘Craig Ogden and Friends’, both went to the top of the charts in 2104 and 2015 respectively. BBC’s Music Magazine dubbed Craig as a “worthy successor to Julian Bream”.
Craig Ogden is Head of Guitar at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music and Visiting Lecturer at London’s Royal College of Music.
The performances have been organised by the Amigos de Música, an international group of around 90 members who stage performances by internationally renowned musicians and also sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
Amigos de Música concerts at Os Agostos begin at 7pm sharp. Doors open at 6pm and wine, fruit juices and canapés will be served. Entry donation is €25 per person for guests and non-members.
