DEVELOPMENTS IN the Algarve have shown their world class credentials as a number of the region’s top resorts picked up a clutch of awards at the 2008 Homes Overseas Awards.
The awards, which were presented on November 29 at a ceremony in London, not only identified the best developments at a national level but also picked out the world’s best in a number of categories.
At a national level, the Algarve took two silver awards, one for the Martinhal resort near Sagres and the other for AlmaVerde Village and Spa near Lagos, while the newly inaugurated Amendoeira Golf Resort near Silves was awarded the bronze prize.
The AlmaVerde resort was recognised as being a world leader in environmentally friendly design and policies when it was awarded the gold award for sustainable development.
Director of Architecture at AlmaVerde, Jes Mainwaring, said: “We are thrilled to accept the awards. They are a tribute to our continuing commitment to low impact and end-to-end sustainability.”
The dominance of the Algarve as a premium golfing destination was also evident at the awards ceremony.
The latest Oceânico development, the Amendoeira Golf Resort, complete with two 18 hole courses and luxury properties, took the gold award for best golf development while the long established Pestana Resort in Carvoeiro received the bronze award.
Other awards presented to Algarve developments included a gold award for best landscape design and a bronze award for best luxury development to the Martinhal resort and a silver award went to the Pestana Resort for best fractional ownership scheme.
