A charity golf competition in aid of the Royal British Legion, which is being sponsored by the Algarve Resident, is to be held at the Quinta da Ria golf resort, in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, on January 31.
Organising this event is the newly formed golf travel agency Algarve Golf 365, headed by British resident Martin Peters and his Portuguese business partner João Gonçalves.
Having met in the Algarve, the two soon became friends and with their respective hotel and management backgrounds decided that setting up an events organisation company, focused on golf, was their dream business.
Algarve Golf 365 offers its clients discounted green fees and golf holidays in the Algarve region with accommodation, car rental and travel insurance.
Martin Peters told the Algarve Resident: “This being our first event, we chose the Quinta da Ria course for its quality as well as its easy access and location in the Algarve, allowing people to come from across the region and take part in the competition.”
He added: “We chose the Royal British Legion as we feel they are a very worthy charity. I was particularly keen because I used to be in the army in the UK before moving on to become a sales manager.”
A number of prizes have been secured for first, second and third place in the competition, as well as for the longest drive and closest to the pin.
The first prize for the competition is one week’s half board at the Yellow Hotel in Montegordo.
“This is a suite for two people with use of a Renault Megan convertible for the week,” said Martin. “This is a transferable prize so a resident winner could pass it on to a friend or family member.”
Second prize, being offered by sponsors the Algarve Resident, is a weekend for two at the soon to be opened Chiado 16 luxury boutique hotel in Lisbon, and third prize a weekend on half board at the Yellow Hotel with the use of a hire car, offered by the Yellow Hotel and Epi Rent a Car.
Winners of the longest drive and closest to the pin will both win trophies as well as a meal for two at an Indian restaurant in the Algarve, offered by Algarve Manta Properties.
João Gonçalves, who previously worked as the deputy general manager of a hotel in the UK, told the Algarve Resident: “Algarve Golf 365 aims to give all of its clients a professional high quality service and we endeavour to bring more sports events and other activities to the Algarve, offering enjoyment to everyone who attends them.”
Participation in the competition costs 85 euros per person, with numbers being limited to 60 players.
To book your space or if you would like to sponsor a hole during the competition for 300 euros, please email [email protected] or call Martin on (00351) 915 976 636.
