An Indian airline has sacked 10 air hostesses for being too overweight to carry out their duties.
Jitendra Bhargava, a spokesman for Air India, said that the air hostesses were “exceptionally overweight” and had been grounded for years, before being sacked after a medical board declared them unfit to work.
She confirmed that some of the air hostesses had approached the New Delhi High Court for a legal challenge, but this was later thrown out.
Jitendra Bhargava added that the airline gave the staff plenty of opportunities to lose weight.
