Portuguese golfer Tomás Bessa started 2022 like he ended 2021 – by winning a Portugal Tour (PT Tour) tournament, this time at the Nau Morgado Open in Portimão on Saturday (February 5).
The tournament marked the return of the PT Tour after it was forced to stop for over one month due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But not much changed in terms of results, with Bessa once again emerging the victor just as he had at the San Lorenzo Open in December. The golfer recorded a score of -8 which earned him €10,000 in prize money and his third straight win after also winning the PGA Portugal Players Championship.
“It is my third straight win. I am very happy. It is also my second win in this circuit,” said Bessa, who recently recovered from an asymptomatic case of Covid-19.
With rounds of 73, 69 and 66, Tomás Bessa overcame stiff competition from South Korean rival Jung-Min Hong (71, 71, 69) to win the tournament.
“I knew if I had a good round today, I had a chance. The secret was not wanting to know the results of others and focusing on making good shots, and I ended very well,” said Bessa.
The PT Tour is the only international circuit for professional and amateur players taking place in Portugal. Six more tournaments are planned this year, all of which will take place in the Algarve in a bid to fight ‘seasonality’.
