I read with interest your letters page regarding toll charges and would like to add our own experience. We travel to the Algarve nearly every month and have arranged for a friend to pay our toll for the trip from Lagos to Faro Airport as we leave the Algarve. Our friend went to the post office on April 12 to pay for our latest trip from Lagos to Faro Airport (€6.91) and was told that the charge for our hire car would be €12.27.
We are clearly paying for the next user of our hire car to use the A22 and there is nothing we can do about it. We do not want to risk the fine and so have had to pay the extra cost.
We have the prospect now of the same thing happening each time we leave our hire car at the airport when we leave the Algarve. Is there nothing that can be done to sort out this ridiculous system?
